Green Leylandii

is a perfect hedge plant. You can create an instant hedge. (A few years ago scientists embarked on a study to find the tree that was most effective at absorbing air pollution. The answer they discovered was the Leylandii. It could also absorb several times as much smoke, dust and carbon dioxide as the average oak!!!)These fast growing evergreen plants are ideal for making a quick effective hedge, windbreak or screen. They grow at around 3ft per year once established but can easily be trimmed into the height and width required. They are easy to keep under control with a trim once a year.

Gold Leylandii

Cupressocyparis leylandii `Castlewellan Gold` is similar to Cupressocyparis leylandii, but with lovely yellow foliage. It does not grow quite as tall as the green leylandii, but it tends to be a bushier plant. It is also highly suited to hedging and screening and can be trimmed to size.

 Laurel

Common Laurel (Prunus laurocerasus Rotundifolia)
Common Laurel or Cherry Laurel is a large evergreen hedging shrub or small tree with big mid-green shiny leaves that are darker on top and paler on the underside. Common Laurel is generally grown as a hedge plant although it is also an excellent small specimen tree for a dark corner. Laurel is an ideal screen or noise barrier as it makes a thick, pollution tolerant hedge, perfect for roadside planting - its heavy leaves block out light and deaden sound. Laurel is also first rate cover for game and small animals for all the same reasons except here its heavy foliage reduces wind chill and retains heat. If left untrimmed, Common Laurel produces fragrant white flowers in spring, followed by poisonous red/black cherry-like fruit which give it its other name of Cherry Laurel.

Aucuba japonica – Spotted Laurel

A versatile evergreen shrub for almost anywhere in the garden. Slow-growing, it will only reach 1.8m (6ft) after ten years if left unpruned. Like all aucuba varieties, `Crotonifolia` will grow in shade - although its gold-blotched and finely-speckled leaves colour best in full sun.
